Meet Emily

For years, I was working as an NHS nurse. Long shifts, real people, real emotions — supporting others through stressful situations was part of my everyday life. So when I turned my attention to my own dog, a red setter in his teenage phase, that same nursing mindset came with me. I wasn’t just trying to “fix” behaviours. I wanted to understand what was underneath them.

And that’s where i wanted to be the change.

Working with my dogs - its my happy place. I found myself genuinely fascinated — not just by training, but by behaviour, emotion, and the relationship between dogs and their humans.

I started out the way most trainers do: shadowing other trainers, collecting techniques, trying different reinforcers, experimenting with toys, treats, games — anything that might motivate a dog who wasn’t interested. And yes, training works. But only after meeting the dogs needs first.

I realised I wasn’t just working with dogs. I was working with their humans.

People with busy lives. People who don’t have hours every week to dedicate to training. People who feel overwhelmed, guilty, frustrated — emotions I recognised instantly from my nursing days.

And honestly, I didn’t want a life that revolved around constant training either.

If you only focus on training behaviours, you’re chasing symptoms. If you understand why those behaviours exist, you change the dog who’s creating them.

That's the game changer.

As a behaviour based dog trainer i looked at methods based on science and started learning what behaviourists understand — the emotional drivers, the unmet needs, the environmental pressures, the reasons behind the behaviour.

Now I blend all of it: my nursing background, my IMDT training, and a calm, practical, human approach that supports both dogs and their humans
